Another Day Another Manchester Tower

Architects, Leach Rhodes Walker, has designed a new four building high-rise development to sit in the heart of central Manchester.
Located on land bounded by Chapeltown Street and Great Ancoats Street, the 0.57 acre site sits on a key gateway location off the inner relief route into the centre of Manchester and is already set to be surrounded by a host of other tall buildings including the nearby Zararchie Tower and Isis Islington Wharf.
Consisting of four buildings, it will contain 232 new one to three bedroom apartments plus 97 square metres of commercial space located in the tallest block at ground level which is expected to be retail space. The development also has 98 basement level car parking spaces planned. Outside space will be provided for residents on the area of the plot that runs alongside the Ashton Canal.
The buildings in the project will range in height from 5 storeys to 25 storeys with the tallest building, Block D, reaching a height of 74.5 metres above ground level with its slab-like appearance dominating the surrounding area.
Approval of the scheme by the local council is highly likely - they have already agreed in principle to the scale of what has been proposed, which combined with the soon to be rising neighbouring towers, creates a local context where another tall residential project should be acceptable.
