City Pride Tower Unwrapped

The wraps have come off a new skyscraper designed by Foster and Partners to stand on the site of the City Pride pub in London's docklands only a few metres from Canary Wharf.
Developed by Glenkerrin, the scheme will be over 200 metres and is the second tallest residential proposal the United Kingdom has seen after the Spark Plug at Battersea Power Station showing there may be a credit crunch but residential skyscrapers in London seem barely effected, so restricted has past supply for truly high-rise living been.
The 63 storeys will contain 410 apartments on the upper floors standing above a 200 room hotel. Topping the tower will be 8 penthouses.
The traditional English City Pride pub caused ripples when it was bought by Glenkerrin for an impressive £32 million giving an idea of the sheer commercial worth that such a small site can have.
The proposals won't please everyone though with there bound to be objections from the residents of the north facing apartments in the Landmark Towers who have yet to move in. They face having a taller glass skyscraper only a few metres away blocking their view, and potentially their sunlight.
The City Pride pub has also proven popular with many workers at Canary Wharf. It's one of the last non franchised pubs in the area that they can drink at so the loss of it will be felt more acutely than in most places.
