| Birminghams New Tallest Approved This week saw the green light being given to a new ground breaking development located on a prime plot within Birmingham City Centre. Ballymore's Snowhill development located between the city's Snow Hill Train and Metro Station and St Chad's Cathedral will not only include the city's first five star hotel, but also the tallest purely residential tower not only within Birmingham, but in the UK outside London. The overall Snowhill development is proposed to include 96,000sqm of mixed-use space at the heart of the city, on a plot that has been vacant for over 30 years. The shorter of 2 large office blocks is already under construction - the 12 storey building 1 - which is already partly let in one of the largest pre-let agreements outside the capital in recent years. The taller 15 storey / 75m office block, Building 2, is scheduled to be the final of 3 phases starting later this year bring the total amount of office space created to 55,000sqm. It is phase 2 however, which is scheduled to start construction in July this year which contains the two tallest buildings. The first of these buildings will be a 23 storey / 84m five star hotel, creating 170 rooms and around 4,000sqm of conference space. This will then be linked by a first floor restaurant to its taller neighbour, a 43 storey / 137m residential tower. Over 330 residential apartments will be included within the tower which is hoped to act as an elegant gateway into the city centre. Both towers will open out onto one of five new public squares created through the development. As well as this, the new £400,000,000 development is to include a major 200m long "art wall" installation which is proposed to be erected along the wall of the eighties Livery Street Car Park and Snow Hill Train and Metro station which stand adjacent to the site. Through such innovative public art pieces, the use of high quality architecture and open space, and the inclusion of ancillary retail and leisure space within the development, Snow Hill can not only become a destination in its own right, but become a sustainable extension to the Birmingham's office core which will help link the city centre to the disconnect Jewellery and Gun quarters of the city. air cards for laptopsaborto | |
