In what will go some way towards shutting up the doubting Thomases, four important contracts have been awarded for the construction of London Bridge Tower, better known as the Shard of Glass.
Stent has won the contract for the piling of the building which is due to begin before the end of the year once the current site has been properly cleared.
This could be counted as the point at which proper construction begins as it is will be amongst the first permanent structural works of the project.
The extensive amounts of steel for the structure will be provided by Corus and CBUK whilst Kone who have recently worked on the high tech double-decker lifts of the Broadgate Tower will be installing the elevators.
Finally, the awarding of the contract for the facades has gone to Scheldebouw who were on the team that built the award winning Hearst Headquarters in New York plus numerous buildings at Canary Wharf.
The contracts awarded by developer of the Shard, Teighmore, is actual proof that the 310 metre tall building designed by Renzo Piano will happen and that with the cash brought into the venture by a consortium of Qatari investors, the much awaited proposals can finally rise on the London skyline changing it forever.
