Southwark Council last night approved Ian Simpson Architect's plans for a large new residential at Chambers Wharf overlooking the southern bank of the River Thames in London.

With six buildings and 593 apartments including 404 privately owned units, the schemes four acres represent one of the last undeveloped warehouse sites within the central area of London.

Modest is the main aim of the design. There's nothing bling going on but rather a grouping of medium scaled apartment blocks with glass reflective curtain glazing that rise up to a maximum of 14 floors in height.

Also included in the development by the St Martins Property Corporation is an extension of the public areas that are gradually lining the banks of the Thames, private gardens for residents, ground floor retail and parking for 183 cars.
